Introducing the Surfers' Chess Set "Surf City Edition"! Available only at The Lost Landmarks! Designed and meticulously hand crafted by Huntington Beach surfer/artist Dave C Reynolds. This amazing chess set is a shout out to all the things we love about HB...past and present! Each exact scale surfboard chess piece is built using woods like Hawaiian koa and California redwood. The exact scale miniature surfboards are made using the same templates developed during the last 80 years of surfboard building. The sculpted portions of the chess pieces are cold cast resin with antique brass and pewter tone finishes. Feels and looks like metal casting. Each piece is carefully weighted between 50-80 grams and has its underside lined with black felt. Each Surf City Edition chess set comes with its own signed and dated storage chest.
The pieces:
Our king is the Big Kahuna in this chess set. It’s a 7 inch high 1940’s redwood and pine Hawaiian plank. Just like the board Duke Kahanamoku rode. Stylized Huntington Beach logo on the nose area. The queen is a 6 inch high triple stringer 60’s style longboard. Made from basswood with California redwood stringers. Each queen has a hand painted lei draped around her board. The bishop is a 3 5/8" oil derrick. A shout out to HB's important oil history. Upper platform has Pacific City inscribed on it. No horses here, our knight is a 3” high Surf Woody. The official vehicle of Surf City. Complete with 2 surfboards strapped on top. The rook is the HB Pier's Tower 0. That's the pier lifeguard tower where some of the world's best lifeguards protect both visitor and local. Our pawns are cool little HB skimboards on a rock pile.
The table:
The 22" x 22" playing board is made from sustainable bamboo board. Beautiful and unique edge detail. The mahogany and ash squares are 2" x 2". Matching trim surrounds the squares and keeps the pieces on the table. The 24" hairpin legs are optional, they are $75 extra.
This could very well be your next family heirloom! If there is a more awesome chess set anywhere in the world we here at The Lost Landmarks have not seen it!
Is it a game? Is it a piece of furniture? Is it a conversation piece? Is it art?
We say YES!
