1969 was a crazy year… The Beatles recorded their final album, Abbey Road… Woodstock attracted more than 350,000 fans… The Manson murders… Ted Kennedy’s infamous Chappaquiddick incident… And perhaps most importantly of all, man landed on the moon. Huntington beach factored into that memorable mission. The third-stage rocket of Apollo 11 was built by McDonnell Douglas in Huntington Beach. That rocket would bring the spacecraft into an orbit around the Earth, then fire its engines again to propel the craft toward the moon. That unforgettable year, this was the typeface at the Chamber of Commerce used to represent Huntington Beach. Seemingly influenced by the summer of love a couple of years earlier, along with Woodstock, and the overall feeling of free love, the age of Aquarius and other cultural movements, this whimsical and carefree design remains timeless. Enjoy the throwback. It’s just a kiss away…
