SPATZ Nite Club Huntington Beach

In 1985, Spatz opened in the Huntington Harbour Mall at the same site as the old Duke of Huntington new wave dance club. Almost immediately, they started booking bands such as the Vandals, T.S.O.L., M.I.A and dozens of other groups from Orange County and Los Angeles.

Spatz was originally designed as a jazz dinner club by entrepreneur Jack Richards, but after a few months, abandoned jazz in favor of local rock, new wave and punk bands.

Soon, other up-and-comers including Stone Temple Pilots, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Black Flag, Fear and the Dickies would be making their way to the corner club tucked into the tiny Harbour neighborhood.

In 1986, due to rent disputes and ownerships changes, Spatz closed for good, leaving behind a rich, storied, albeit short musical legacy. Today, the original site remains, occupied by the Harbour Rack House.
