Collection: Japanese Village and Deer Park

It opened in 1967 on a 32-acre site on Knott Avenue, near the Santa Ana Freeway. The brainchild of Allen Parkinson, who also operated the Movieland Wax Museum on Beach Boulevard in Buena Park, the soon-to-be-famous Japanese Deer Park was inspired by an actual deer park in Nara, Japan.

Yes, the park featured koi ponds, a five-acre Japanese garden, a classic tea house, pearl divers and martial arts exhibitions, but the real stars were the deer, 300 of which were imported from Japan. (Other animals featured were white doves, large carp fish and in the Sea Theater, dolphins, sea lions and bears.)

After being in 1972, to Six Flags, the park was eventually re-christened in 1976 as Enchanted Village where hundreds of creatures, from giraffes to tarantulas, were exhibited.

The park closed in the fall of 1977 and today, the site is a corporate park. Not a trace remains, but today you can celebrate and commemorate the famed park with this special collection.
